This is the first of two days at sea, heading to Stanley, Falkland Islands. Time to relax, sleep late, and take advantage of our drink package.
Things I’ve learned so far:
- Maker’s Mark price is within our drink package limit ($11), but not Angel’s Envy or Woodford Reserve. And they have plenty of Stella Artois and Corona beer on board. No local beers except one IPA – no thanks
- While I knew about a double drink, at dinner here you can ask for a “double Syraz” or “double Malbec” and get a meaningful sized glass of wine. Bar server comes out with 2 pre-measured cups of wine and then pours them into your wine glass. That should last until dessert!
- There are often daily specials on the dinner menu for Orange Club members that are only seen on the on-line menu. Our room includes the Orange Club package, so we now check on-line before going to dinner
- GPS exercise apps don’t work on a moving ship to measure distance walked. Luckily I pre-measures the promenade loop and upper deck loop while at port and just count laps to know distance walked. 3 laps/ mile on Promenade, 6 laps/mile on Upper Deck

This is what 6 laps around the Promenade looks like while at sea. And I only walked 2 miles, not 7.
For dinner Friday night, we tried Corvina, a pinkish-white fish from off the Pacific coast of South America. Not as rich as a Bass or Haddock, but delicious. Served on bed of saffron risotto. Enjoyed view out the ship stern while dining. We went to our first show, a comedian – musical impersonator named Foggie Flax. Best joke of the night was:
An American is in a bar in Sydney, and announces to everyone, “I’ll give a thousand dollars to anyone who can drink the 20 glasses of beer lined up here on the bar.” No immediate takers, but one fella looked at the line of beers and then walked out of the bar. A few minutes later the fella returned and asked the American if the bet was still on. “Sure is” replied the American. So the fella went up to the first beer and drank it down, then the second, the third, all the way to eighteen, nineteen and twenty. “That’s amazing”, said the American, “I’ll pay you the thousand dollars, but I have to ask, where did you go before coming back in here?” The fella answered, “I went to the bar next door to make sure I could drink twenty beers.”
