Packing

We going to limit ourselves to the following: 2 medium suitcases, 1 carry-on suitcase, camera backpack, and Laura’s handbag. It’s more than I’ve ever used for one trip, but we go straight to/from airport to ship, so we only have to handle our luggage within the airport. Carry-on suitcase will be handy for the 3-day excursion we take to Cusco – Machu Picchu. Want to be able to bring home things we purchase along the way. Although we’ll be gone for 31 days, we have free laundry service on-board as part of our cabin services. So I don’t need to pack for 30+ days, thinking perhaps 10-12 days of daily clothes that can be cleaned every week or so. The challenge is the 3 different climates we’ll be traveling to. Temperatures will range from lows in 40s to highs as much as 90 degrees, with likely rainy and wind weather down towards the southern tip of South America. Plus, the cruise ship will be having at least 2 formal nights, and HAL does this Orange thing (honoring their Netherlands origins) a few times where you are supposed to dress fun and wild in orange!

So I’ll have a set of shorts and travel pants, and 1 or 2 dress slacks. Need to wear long pants to dinner each night (unless we use Lido Deck or room-service), but the travel pants can mix in with the dress slacks for that purpose. A sports coat will suffice for formal nights. Add a couple of swimming suits and that cover the basics. We’ll both bring a rain slicker and a travel down jacket that fold into a small bag (or in my case it folds into the outside pocket). For the cooler locations, we’ll be layering shirts and thin fleece covers. For shirts, I’ve got a small set of short-sleeve, t-shirts, button down and golf shirts.

Still struggling with the shoe situation. At this point I fear I need 4 pair – dress shoes, comfort shoes, sneakers and hiking shoes. Seems excessive, so I’m still thinking that thru.
